Program Features

Certifications and Advanced Courses

Students in CTE Programs of Study are required to take an industry recognized certification exam to complete their CTE program. Successfully attaining an industry certification can add value to a students resume, potential for employment, and college applications. Some colleges offer equivalent college credit for an industry certification. Iindustry recognized certifications are awarded to students that successfully pass exams in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, and/or Premiere. Many of our students graduate with the title of Adobe Certified Associate (ACA), and have earned more than one certification.

More information about the ACA Exam

All 12th grade AVID students are required to take the Pennsylvania state assessment (NOCTI) for our program. Students that successfully pass the NOCTI exam in Visual Communications & Multimedia Design will receive certifications from the state. Students that score 70% or above on the NOCTI are also eligible for 3 college credits. In 2015, AVID had an 84% pass rate with 73% scoring Advanced and 11% scoring Competent. 32% of the students were awarded college credit. With 63 students and a 100% participation rate on the 2015 NOCTI, AVID is the largest single program in the state. Our average scores beat those of the state and the nation.
